Setting up a Portal as an Automated Carousel on your Computer

Step 1 — Ensure You Have a Current Chrome / Chromium Browser

  • Download or update Chrome, or a Chromium browser compatible with Chrome extensions, such as Vivaldi

Step 2 — Import News Portal Pages of Your Choice

  • News widgets have been organized into individual thematic pages in this bookmark file

  • Import the whole file into a new folder in your browser’s bookmarks

  • Delete any bookmarks you are NOT interested having be part of your carousel

Step 3 — Download & Configure the Chrome Extension “TabCarousel”

  • Download TabCarousel from the Chrome Web Store

  • Install TabCarousel, and ensure it appears in your browser’s toolbar

  • Right-click on TabCarousel; select “Options”

  • Set “FlipWait” to 120,000 ms (=2 minutes); select “Start Automatically”; click “Save”

Step 4 — Open Chosen Portal Pages & Launch

  • Open chosen News Portal pages in tabs in a New Browser Window; ensure these are the only tabs in the window

  • If possible, place this window on a dedicated desktop, or better, on a dedicated display

  • Single-click on the TabCarousel extension’s icon in your browser’s toolbar to launch

    • A red dot should appear on the icon to show that TabCarousel is active

    • The left-most tab in your Portal window should activate (if it was not already active)

    • After 2 min. (or interval of your choice), TabCarousel will activate and refresh the next tab

    • Single-click again anytime to toggle TabCarousel off

  • Experiment with full-screen, and adjust window vertical scroll as needed the first time each tab activates — your browser should retain this setting on subsequent activations of the tab
